How To Get A Free Quote

Getting a free quote is a great way to help you decide if a particular health insurance plan is for you. By comparing it with other rates - also free, you should be able to find just the right plan for your needs. In trying to decide which program is right for you, you need to be a smart shopper and look at some of the finer details before you buy. Here are some things you need to look at in your free quotes.

Premiums

Your premiums are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to expenses attached to your health insurance policy. So while you compare premiums, keep in mind that there may be a lot of other costs that may not be so noticeable - up front. Other costs may be hidden behind things like copay, deductibles, and coinsurance.

Deductible

The deductible amounts on a health insurance policy are what you pay, usually per person before the insurance company will pay anything. If, for example, your deductible is $250 per person, then that means that when you have a medical need, you will have to pay $250 before you get even a dime from the insurance company. Then, if your son has a need, another $250 will need to be paid for him first. Usually, there will be a yearly total deductible amount. By increasing this amount, which is often recommended for savings, you can lower your premium cost each month, but you will need to pay more for each medical need.

Coverage

See what things are covered and what services are provided. If you have need for a hospital stay, find out how many days they will cover - and at what rate? Then, see if there is any home health care after you get discharged and are home, but still need help. Also see if emergency ambulance transportation is covered, air evac, or what kinds of health related equipment will be supplied and covered. Things like oxygen tanks, dialysis machines, canes and wheelchairs, etc., may need to be covered - especially if you are older. Then, what about long-term care – is that included? Looking at your free quote will sure come in handy when comparing these things.

Availability of Service

Some health insurance plans, whether individual or group, use providers that restrict your medical service to the care of a single doctor. Then, if more service is needed, that doctor must make a referral - without it, the insurance company will not cover it. This is typically the way that HMO's and POS's work.

Before you get this type of policy, however, you need to see if there are a number of doctors and healthcare specialists in their network in your area. Also check to see if the nearest hospital accepts that insurance provider. Otherwise, if you always have to go a distance to see a doctor - you may not be saving any money.

Preventive Medicine

Some health insurance plans provide for you to be able to get regular checkups, physicals, natal care, well baby care, mammograms, and other things that are designed to make sure you stay healthy and make early detection of potential problems possible. This is typical of the health care that HMO's and POS's give you. Check to see if these are in the health plans that you are looking at - if you are interested in this type of program.
